United East Athletes of the Week - January 20, 2025

LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East conference has announced its Athletes of the Week for January 20, 2025.  Today will include Athletes of the Week for Men’s and Women’s Basketball as well as Men’s Volleyball. 

This is the first week of awards for Men’s Volleyball as the season began on Friday, January 10th.

This week’s selections included contests from Monday, January 13 through Sunday, January 19, 2025. A total of 6 student athletes were recognized for their performances.

  • Offensive Player of the Week

    Keira Mason / FY / St. Mary’s College of Maryland / Brandywine, Md. / Gwynn Park HS

    Keira Mason averaged 21.5 points, 14.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.0 blocks in a 2-0 week for the Seahawks as St. Mary's College stretched its win streak to five. Mason began the week by collecting her sixth double-double of the season with 25 points and a career-high 16 boards (8 defensive) while adding three steals and two assists in a 96-47 road win over Valley Forge. She followed that up with her third consecutive double-double (and seventh of the year) on 18 points and 13 caroms (11 defensive) in a 65-57 win over Lancaster Bible while adding two blocks and an assist. Mason shot 57.1 percent (16-28) for the week.

    This is the second Player of the Week award for Mason who previously won for the week of January 13, 2025.  Mason is currently eighth in the United East averaging 14.5 points per game while shooting 50.6% from the field (3rd in the league), fourth for total rebounds (164) and rebounds per game (9.6).  Additionally, Mason is tenth in the league totaling 15 blocked shots.

    Defensive Player of the Week

    Cam Lexow / SO / Gallaudet University / Abington, Pa. / Abington HS

    Lexow totaled 26 points, 13 rebounds, eight assists, seven blocks and five steals as GU went 2-0 for the week and have won five straight.  Lexow’s seven blocks on the week extend her league-leading total to 44 blocks on the season with a 2.6 per game average: good for seventh in NCAA Division III.  The five steals also brought the season-long total to 61 steals, best in the United East and fourth in the country. 

    This is the fourth Player of the Week award for Lexow, who previously won for the weeks of January 13, 2025, November 25, 2024, and January 8, 2024.  Lexow is fifth in the league with a 16.6 points per game average and third in the league with 283 total points while shooting 48.4% from the field.

  • Offensive Player of the Week

    Tye-Rell Monroe / Sr / Saint Elizabeth University / Rio Rancho, N.M. / Albany (NY) HS / SUNY Adirondack

    In a 1-1 week for the Eagles, Monroe would average 40.5 PPG, while shooting nearly 60% from the field (59.1) while also shooting an impressive 45% from three-point line.  On Tuesday against Penn State Berks, Monroe shot 58% (14-24) from the field en route to a game-high 38 points while contributing seven rebounds and a steal.  Saturday’s matchup with Penn State Harrisburg saw Monroe shoot 60% (12-20), including 5-10 from behind the arc and 14-18 from the free-throw line, as the senior finished with 43 points. 

    This is the third Player of the Week award for Monroe, who previously won for the weeks of December 9, 2024, and November 27, 2023.  Monroe was named First-Team United East Skye Division selection in 2023-24 after starting all 29 games and averaging 17.5 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.  Monroe currently leads the league with a 26.3 scoring average and 447 total points while shooting 50.5% from the field (4th in the league) and 79% from the free-throw line (6th in the league). Additionally, Monroe is sixth in the circuit with 29 total steals averaging 1.7 per game.

     

    Defensive Player of the Week

    Daryl Coleman / Jr / Keystone College / Allentown, Pa. / Southern Lehigh / Lackawanna College

    Coleman recorded 15 rebounds (10 defensive), four steals, and one blocked shot in a 2-0 week for Keystone. In the team's win against Cairn on Tuesday, he scored 22 points with seven rebounds, two steals, and a blocked shot. The junior forward followed that up with 12 points, eight rebounds, and two steals in the victory at Penn State Brandywine. 

    This is the second Player of the Week award for Coleman, who previously won for the week of December 2, 2024. On the season, Coleman is third in the league averaging 1.7 blocks per game (24 total) and is shooting 76.6% from the free-throw line. Additionally, Coleman’s 8.8 rebounds per game is fourth in the United East while the total rebounding tally of 123 is good for seventh.

     

  • Offensive Player of the Week

    Dawson Forney / Sr / Lancaster Bible College / Lititz, Pa. / Warwick HS

    Forney opened the season with a flurry totaling 89 kills in the seasons’ first six matches, swinging for a .295 average (89-30-200) with six service aces, eight total blocks, and 26 digs on the defensive side of the net. On Tuesday, January 15, Forney totaled 23 kills over five sets as the Chargers took #14 Misericordia University to the limit.  On the week, Forney tallied 52 kills over three matches as the senior finished with 12 kills in a win versus Widener and 17 more in a victory over Roanoke.

    This is the third Player of the Week award for Forney, who previously won for the weeks of March 4, 2024, and January 22, 2024.  Last season, Forney was a First Team All-Conference award winner after leading the team with 223 kills: good for second in the league.

     

    Defensive Player of the Week

    Tyler Martin / Jr / Lancaster Bible College / New Holland, Pa. / Garden Spot

    Tyler Martin picked up 63 digs in the season’s first six matches, good for 10.5 digs per match.  On the road against Trine (Ind.), Martin set a new career-high with 19 digs as the Charges defeated the hosts 3-2 in a five-set thriller.  The junior is averaging 2.63 digs per set through the first weekends of the season.

    This is the first Player of the Week award for Martin.
