United East Athletes of the Week - October 14, 2025

LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East conference has announced its Athletes of the Week for October 14, 2025.  Today will include Athletes of the Week for Men’s and Women’s Cross Country, Men's Golf and Men's and Women's Tennis.

This week’s selections included contests through Sunday, October 12.  A total of five student-athletes from five different member institutions were recognized for their performances.
 

Women’s Cross Country

Runner of the Week
MaKayla Reichel / FR / Penn State Harrisburg / Landisville, Pa. / Hempfield

MaKayla Reichel turned in one of the best performances in Penn State Harrisburg history to lead the way at the 42nd annual DeSales Invitational on Saturday morning. The freshman's outstanding rookie campaign continued with a sixth-place finish out of 82 total runners in the 6K event. Her time of 24:25.2 was the third-fastest effort in program history – less than one second off the quickest time ever run.

This is Reichel's first ever weekly accoalde.
 

Men’s Cross Country

Runner of the Week
Mason Kaminski / FR / Penn State Abington

Freshman Mason Kaminski won his first collegiate race as he took top honors at the Green and Gold Invitational hosted by Delaware Valley University on Saturday morning. Kaminski has now finished in the top-three in his last four races, including a second-place showing at the Abington Invitational and now a first-place performance at the Green and Gold Invitational.  Kaminski finished the 8k-course in a season-best time of 26:56.7.


This is Kaminski's first ever weekly accoalde.
 
 
Men’s Golf

Golfer of the Week
Jon Breinich / FR / Lancaster Bible College


Breinich turned in another successful outing this week as he helped his Charger squad to a fourth place team finish at the Alvernia Fall Invitational. The first year golfer carded a 73 (+1) on the day which earned him a first place finsih in a field of 65 golfers. Breinich scored a pair of birdies on the front nine before turning in three more on the second nine.

This is Breinich's second career United East weekly accolade (9/30/25)


Men’s Tennis

Player of the Week
Jacob Nelson / SO / St. Mary's College of Maryland / Olney, Md. / Sherwood

Jacob Nelson notched the Seahawks' lone point in a 6-1 loss to Marymount. Nelson posted a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Rebhi Villasmil at No. 2 singles. He started the match alongside Alex Lyman at No. 1 doubles, falling 6-1 to Villasmil and Eshan Degamwar.

This is Nelson's United East weekly accolade of the year and his second all time (3/4/25).

Women’s Tennis

Player of the Week

Leah Vest / FR / Penn College / Muncy, Pa. / Muncy

Leah Vest went 2-0 at No. 4 singles and 1-1 at No. 2 doubles. She picked up Singles win at Kean on Friday and Susquehanna on Sunday to earn her first career individual victories. Also went 1-1 with a No. 2 doubles victory at Kean.

This is Vest's first career United East weekly accolade.
