Penn State Harrisburg claimed the United East Women’s Soccer Championship in dramatic fashion, defeating St. Mary’s College of Maryland in penalty kicks after a 2-2 draw through regulation and double overtime.

The Lions struck first in the 10th minute when Ava Myers found the back of the net off an assist from Olivia Sgrignioli. Both teams traded looks until a Harrisburg foul led to a St. Mary’s penalty kick, which Erin Clark converted to even the score. Harrisburg entered halftime with a 5-3 edge in shots and a 2-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Harrisburg regained the lead early in the second half, as Myers notched her second goal of the day in the 48th minute. The Seahawks answered quickly, with Brooke Hall tying the match in the 55th minute off a feed from Ashlyn Bonner. Despite Harrisburg’s 11-2 advantage in second-half shots, the match remained deadlocked, forcing overtime.

Both overtime periods were tightly contested, with limited opportunities for either side. Harrisburg managed one shot in the first extra period, while the second saw balanced play and strong defensive efforts on both ends.

In the penalty shootout, St. Mary’s missed its opening attempt, while Harrisburg’s Diana Pon converted to give the Lions an early edge. After a series of saves and missed chances from both teams, Harrisburg’s Kylie Yap buried her shot to secure the 2-0 penalty-kick win and the United East Championship crown.

Aya Myers of Penn State Harrisburg earned the MVP honor. Myers scored both goals of regulation for the Lions.
