LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East conference has released its 2024-25 Men’s Basketball All-Conference Teams and major award winners.
The All-Conference Teams are three teams made up of 10 student-athletes each, including four at-large selections. Four major awards have also been handed out including Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and Coach of the Year.
Major Award Winners
Player of the Year - Isaiah Eggleston (Penn State Harrisburg)
Defensive Player of the Year - Yassine Idrissa (St. Mary’s College of Maryland)
Rookie of the Year - Yassine Idrissa (St. Mary’s College of Maryland)
Coach of the Year - Sean Westerlund (Bryn Athyn College)
The big man did a bit of everything for the Lions this season, bringing home Harrisburg’s second-straight Player of the Year award. Eggleston was a walking bucket as his 17.8 points-per-game ranked fourth in the conference and his 481 total points ranked third. Scoring seemed to come easy for the Roanoke, Va. native as he shot at a clip of 50.5 from the field (second in the United East). Eggleston also was a big paint presence for Harrisburg, totaling 48 blocks and 191 boards which ranked 2nd and eighth in the conference, respectively. One of his top performances came in a crucial win over Lancaster Bible as he dropped 31 points and 12 boards to go along with three steals and three blocks. Eggleston was also named the United East Offensive Player of the Week three times this season.
Idrissa was a menace on the court in his first season with the Seahawks, leading him to capture two of the conference’s major awards. Defensively, the first year was a shot blocker as he registered a league leading 66 blocks. He’d average with 2.54 rejections a game which ranks 13th in the nation. As for scoring, Idrissa averaged 13.6 points-per-game as he hit double-digits in all but five games. Underneath the glass, his 8.0 boards a game ranked sixth in the conference while he also piled up 28 steals. One of his best outings came in a win over Valley Forge as he scored a career-best 20 points while hauling in 14 boards and two steals. Idrissa was tabbed the United East Defensive Player of the Week twice this season.
Westerlund never took the gas off the pedal from last season as the fourth-year head coach of the Lions picked up his second-straight Coach of the Year nod. This season, Westerlund led Bryn Athyn to a league topping record of 15-1 (20-8 overall) and has not dropped a game in 2025. Most recently, the Lions hoisted the Championship trophy as they downed Notre Dame of Maryland in the United East Championship Finals on Saturday. His team has won on consistency as they rank second in the league in scoring defense (70.6 PPG) and also third in field goal percentage (44.8%). Westerlund guided his squad to 12 conference wins of 10+ points while also winning the Final in similar fashion. This season, he saw four of his student-athletes receive All-Conference recognition including a pair of the First Team.
