United East Athletes of the Week - April 15, 2025

LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East conference has announced its Athletes of the Week for April 8, 2025.  Today will include Athletes of the Week will include Men's Golf, Men's and Women’s Tennis as well as Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field. 

This week’s selections included contests from Monday, April 7 through Sunday, April 13. A total of seven student athletes were recognized for their performances.

  • Women's Outdoor T&F Track Athlete of the Week

    Seana Dougherty / FY / Lancaster Bible College / Lancaster, Pa. / Homeschool

    Dougherty set a new school record in the 10k and finished fifth in the event at the Messiah Invitational with a time of 39:21.85. She is also listed as first in the conference and 10th regionally in the event. Dougherty is also currently ranked first in the 5k for the conference as well. 

    This is the first time Dougherty has earned Athlete of the Week honors in her career

     

    Women's Outdoor T&F Field Athlete of the Week

    Rocksann Smith / FY / St. Mary's College of Maryland / Baltimore, Md. / Baltimore City College

    Rocksann Smith became the first Seahawk to ever compete in the heptathlon, participating in the event at the TCNJ Invite & Multi. Smith placed fifth in the heptathlon with 3772 points, which is a PR and school record and ranks first in the United East, seventh in the Mid-Atlantic, and 11th in the AARTFC.

    She took third in the javelin throw with 27.90m while going fourth in the shot put with a PR of 9.50m. Smith finished sixth in the 100m hurdles with a PR of 16.37 (wind +1.7) (first in United East and 23rd in Mid-Atlantic) and the long jump with a school record and PR of 4.88m (wind -3.5) (first in United East and 33rd in Mid-Atlantic) while taking seventh in the high jump with 1.44m and 200m in 27.88 (wind +0.5) (third in United East). In the 800m, she came in 10th in 2:51.73 (seventh in United East).

    With her performance at the TCNJ Invite & Multi, Smith qualified for the AARTFC Outdoor Championships in the heptathlon.

    This is Smith's second time being named Athlete of the Week of her career (03/25/25)

  • Men's Golfer of the Week

    Jake Rotelle / JR / Lancaster Bible College / Honey Brook, Pa. / Terre Hill Mennonite

    Rotelle had himself another day winning the RU-Camden Scarlet Raptor Spring Shootout this past Monday with a field-best 74 (+3). Rotelle helped lead the Chargers to a fourth place finish out of ten total teams. This is the third round in a row Rotelle has shot in the 70's and placed in the top five. 

    This is Rotelle's third time being named Player of the Week of his career (10/01/24 | 10/29/24)

  • Women's Tennis Player of the Week

    Allison Wootton / SO / Penn State Harrisburg / Portage, Mich. / North Portage

    Allison Wootton went 4-0 in a pair of wins for Penn State Harrisburg last week. She and Breanna DeSantis won their top doubles match 6-1 against Penn College midweek and she followed with a 6-0, 6-3 victory in the No. 1 solo outing. Against Notre Dame of Maryland on Saturday, she and DeSantis won 6-0 in the No. 1 doubles match and then swept a 6-0, 6-0 win in the top singles contest. 

    This is Wootton's fourth time being named Player of the Week of the season and the 10th time of her career (09/26/23 | 10/03/23 | 10/10/23 | 04/02/24 | 04/09/24 | 04/23/24 | 10/08/24 | 10/15/24 | 03/18/25)

     

    Men's Tennis Player of the Week

    Wenxu Gu / SO / Penn State Abington / Nanjiang, China / Laurel Springs School

    Gu went 3-0 this past week as Abington finished the week 1-1 versus conference opponents.  The Nittany Lions fell short against St. Mary's, 4-3, marking the first-ever time they have won individual matches against the Seahawks.  Abington capped the week with a 5-2 victory against Penn College.  Gu went 2-0 against St. Mary's with victories at first doubles and first singles.  He won his singles match in straight sets by the scores of 6-4, 6-3.  Against Penn College, Gu won his first singles match with ease by the scores of 6-1, 6-0.  After dropping the first game, he went on to win 12 straight games in the match. 

    This is Gu's second time being named Player of the Week this season and third time of his career (03/25/25 | 10/17/23).

     

  • Men's Outdoor T&F Track Athlete of the Week

    Mel Cobbler / SO / Carlow University / Silver Springs, Md. / Albert Einstein

    Cobbler broke Bryan Pan’s record of 17.50 from the USCAA Championship on April 27, 2024, with a personal best time of 16.51 in the 110-meter hurdles for a fifth place finish. He also ran a personal best 24.04 in the 200 at the Westminster College Invitational Saturday.

    This is Cobbler's first time being named Athlete of the Week of his career.

     

    Men's Outdoor T&F Field Athlete of the Week

    Kyle Durkin / FY / Lancaster Bible College / Adelphia, Pa.  / Calvary Christian

    Durkin placed fourth in the javelin at the Messiah Invitational this past weekend racking first in the United East and eighth in the region with a mark of 52.44-meters. He is also listed as 55th nationally. 

    This is Durkin's first time being named Athlete of the Week in his career.
