United East Athletes of the Week - April 23, 2025

LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East conference has announced its Athletes of the Week for April 8, 2025.  Today will include Athletes of the Week will include Men's Golf, Men's and Women’s Tennis as well as Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field. 

This week’s selections included contests from Monday, April 7 through Sunday, April 13. A total of seven student athletes were recognized for their performances.

  • Women's Tennis Player of the Week

    Laurie Flemming / SO / Penn State Abington / Philadelphia, Pa. / Archbishop Ryan

    In a 2-1 week for the Nittany Lions, Flemming went a perfect 6-0 in her singles and doubles matches.  She went 3-0 at first singles, including two shutouts against Notre Dame and Penn State Berks. Flemming closed out the regular season with an 11-2 overall record and 6-1 mark in conference play. In doubles action, Flemming teamed up with Isabella DePorre and the duo went 3-0 at first doubles.  They finished the regular season 11-2 overall and 6-1 in the United East.  

    This is Flemming's second time being named Player of the Week of her career (10/17/23)

     

    Men's Tennis Player of the Week

    Peng Mark Hou / SO / Penn State Harrisburg / Datong, China / Datong Sports

    Peng Mark Hou won four matches in helping lead Penn State Harrisburg to a 2-0 week. In a 6-0 sweep of Penn State Berks, he teamed with Andrew Schreck to earn a 6-1 win in the No. 2 doubles contest before winning the top singles match 6-3, 6-1. In a 7-0 sweep of Penn State Abington that clinched the top seed in the upcoming conference tournament, he again teamed with Schreck for a 6-4 victory in the No. 2 doubles match before finishing undefeated in singles action in conference play with a three-set win in the No. 1 solo matchup. 

    This is Hou's fourth time being named Player of the Week this season (10/22/24 | 10/08/24 | 09/24/24)

     

  • Women's Outdoor T&F Field Athlete of the Week

    Bella Bozen / JR / Cedar Crest College / Lockport, Ill. / Lockport Township

    Bozen broke her own program record in the discus, finishing ninth in the event with a mark of 34.70 meters at the Coach P Invitational, moving into the conference lead in the event. 

    This is the first time Bozen has earned Athlete of the Week honors in her career

     

    Women's Outdoor T&F Track Athlete of the Week

    Linsey Nester / SR / Cedar Crest College / Mohrsville, Pa. / Hamburg

    Nester broke three program records at the Coach P Invitational. She ran a conference-leading and program record in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:13.95. She was also part of the 4x100 relay (53:10 seconds) and 4x400 relay (4:32.92) that broke program records this weekend. 

    This is Nester's first time being named Athlete of the Week of her career.

  • Men's Golfer of the Week

    Peyton Mussina / SR / Penn College / Montoursville, Pa. / Montoursville

    Mussina carded rounds of 73-73--146 (+2) to finish seventh among 54 golfers at the Gettysburg Spring Shootout. Mussina was the second-best golfer on Par 4s with an even score and was tied for second at 3-under on Par 5s. The Wildcat senior scored seven birdies and one eagle on the par 72, 6,972-yard Penn National Golf Club course.

    This is Mussina's 10th time being named Player of the Week of his career (10/22/24 | 10/15/24  | 09/17/24 | 04/23/24 | 04/16/24 | 10/10/23 | 10/03/23 | 09/19/23 | 10/25/22) 

  • Men's Outdoor T&F Track Athlete of the Week

    Nicholas Haylock / JR / St. Mary's College of Maryland / Odenton, Md. / Meade

    Nicholas Haylock finished sixth in the 400m hurdles at the Morgan State Legacy Meet with a school record time of 58.02 (18th in Mid-Atlantic, 1st in United East). He was also part of the ninth-place 4x400m relay (3:44.98) at the Hopkins/Loyola Invite. Haylock took 14th in the 110m hurdles 16.60 while coming in 33rd in the 100m dash with a personal-best time of 11.76 (10th in United East). He added a 43rd-place finish in the 200m dash in 24.34 (16th in United East). 

    This is Haylock's first time being named Athlete of the Week of his career.

     

    Men's Outdoor T&F Field Athlete of the Week

    Jonathan Luo / FR / Penn State Harrisburg / New Cumberland, Pa.  / Bishop McDevitt

    Jonathan Luo turned in two excellent jumping performances at the Shippensburg PR Bonanza on Wednesday, April 16. The freshman won the triple jump after posting a top bound of 13.79 meters which broke his own program record in the event. He also finished fourth in the long jump, with his attempt of 6.99 meters currently standing as the second-best mark in program history and the third-best mark in the Mid-Atlantic Region this season.

    This is Luo's first time being named Athlete of the Week in his career.
