United East Athletes of the Week - April 8, 2025

LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East conference has announced its Athletes of the Week for April 8, 2025.  Today will include Athletes of the Week will include Men's Golf, Men's and Women’s Tennis as well as Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field. 

This week’s selections included contests from Monday, April 1 through Sunday, April 6. A total of seven student athletes were recognized for their performances.

  • Women's Tennis Player of the Week

    Samma Zahran / SO / Penn State Brandywine / Brookhaven, Pa. / Cardinal O'Hara

    Samma Zahran went 2-0 at No. 1 singles and 2-0 at No. 1 doubles last week. She helped Brandywine win its first match since 2019 in a 3-2 victory over Penn College, winning No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-0. She also won her No. 1 singles match against Notre Dame 6-0, 6-0 on Saturday.

    This is Zahran's second time being named Player of the Week of the season (09/24/24).

     

    Men's Tennis Player of the Week

    Max Esztergomi / JR / St. Mary's College of Maryland / Bethesda, Md. / Walt Whitman

    Max Esztergomi helped the Seahawks grab their first conference win of the season as he teamed up with Hudson Christenson for a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles over Penn State Berks' Joshi Rajas and Joseph Martin. Esztergomi then earned a 6-3, 6-3 win over Talan Nguyen at No. 2 singles as the Seahawks won 5-2.

    This is Esztergomi's first time being named Player of the Week of his career.

     

  • Women's Outdoor T&F Track Athlete of the Week

    Molly Wagner / SR / Carlow University / Pleasent Hills, Pa. / Thomas Jefferson

    Wagner once again led the Celtics with two top-10 finishes at the Slippery Rock University Dave Labor Invitational Saturday. In the 100 preliminaries, she was just 15 tenths of a second from tying her own school record she set on April 6, 2022. She placed seventh in the event with a time of 12.73. She ran 1:00.74 to place sixth in the 400 and was part of the 4x100 relay team of Trista Miller, Sydney Taylor and Ella Cloak that placed sixth with a time of 50.63. She placed 13th in the 200 with a 26.17 finish.

    This is the third time in as many weeks that Wagner has earned Athlete of the Week honors.

     

    Women's Outdoor T&F Field Athlete of the Week

    Martha Weaver / SO / Lancaster Bible College / Quarryville, Pa. / Solanco

    Martha Weaver continues to rise to the occasion placing top ten in both the hammer throw and shot put at the Millersville Metrics this past weekend. Weaver finished sixth overall in the hammer throw with a mark of 40.44-meters and eighth in the shot put with a mark of 11.64-meters. She is ranked first in the conference in both events and sixth in the Mid-Atlantic Region in shot put. She also set a new school record in shot put. 

    This is Weaver's first time being named Athlete of the Week of her career.

  • Men's Golfer of the Week

    Junchen Huang / SO / Wilson College / Taiwan / Veritas Meihua International

    Huang carded a 171 with an 86 and 85 in the Cardinal Spring Classic hosted by Catholic in Hagerstown on Saturday and Sunday to lead the Phoenix squad.

    This is Huang's first time being named Player of the Week of his career.

  • Men's Outdoor T&F Field Athlete of the Week

    Jordan Lomax / JR / Saint Elizabeth University / Browns Mills, N.J. / Pemberton Township

    Lomax would see gold for the Eagles this week as he would finish first for the Eagles in long jump at the Muhlenberg Invitational, jumping a distance of 6.31 (20-08.50).

    This is Lomax's first time being named Athlete of the Week of his career.

     

    Men's Outdoor T&F Track Athlete of the Week

    David Helms / FY / Lancaster Bible College / Lampeter, Pa.  / Lampeter-Strausburg

    Helms continues to produce placing fourth overall in the 10k at the Millersville Metrics with a time of 33:07.21. He now ranks first in the conference for both the 5k, 10k, and 1500-meter. He also qualified for the NCCAA Outdoor Championships with his time on Saturday.

    This is Helms' second time being named Athlete of the Week in as many weeks.
