Nine Softball Players Receive NFCA All-Region Honors

LATHAM, N.Y. - Nine United East softball players across five programs were named to the All-Region teams which was released by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) on Friday. Four players earned a spot on the Region IV second team while five players were placed on the Region IV third team.

Gretchen Yanss and Lainey Scotese from the Penn State Abington softball team both earned a spot on the All-Region Second Team. Yanss was tabbed as the utility player position, showing off her skills in the circle as well as in the batter’s box. She’d end the year with 17 victories and 50 hits which ranked third and sixth in the conference, respectively. Scotese, who was rostered as a first baseman, hit .391 on the season with 43 hits, both of which ranked in the top-25 among United East players.

From Penn State Berks, Peyton Vivian collected Second Team honors at third base while Paige Brightwell earned a spot as a Third Team pitcher. Vivian piled up 43 hits while knocking in 32 runs as well. Brightwell excelled in the circle as her 1.53 ERA topped the United East.

From Penn State Harrisburg, Mackenzie Fisher and Madisen Minney both earned a spot on the All-Region Third Team. Fisher, named as a third baseman, had quite the batter’s eye this season, posting a .435 batting average while leading the conference in walks with 27. Minney was named as an outfielder, had 41 hits on the year, six of which were home runs (league-leading)

Wilson College saw both Carliegh Magers and Katelyn Keller collect Third Team All-Region honors. Keller had a terrific first year as a shortstop with the Phoenix, leading all of Division III in triples (12) and leads the league in slugging percentage (.817) and OPS (1.309). Magers earned first base honors and batted .415 on the season which ranked 12th in the United East.

Mackenzie Weaver was the lone Penn College player to earn an All-Region nod, placing on the Second Team as a Pitcher. Weaver ranked second in the conference in wins (15) and strikeouts (134) and second in ERA (1.64).
