Top Seeds Advance in Women's Basketball Quarterfinals

LATHAM, N.Y. -  The top seeds proved their worth as all four defended their courts during the 2025 United East Women’s Basketball quarterfinal round on Saturday. The scores of the game were as follows:

#1 St. Mary’s College of Maryland def. #8 Penn State Harrisburg, 70-58

#2 Penn College def. #7 Lancaster Bible College, 76-42

#3 Penn State Abington def. #6 Wilson College, 81-39

#4 Cedar Crest College def. #5 Notre Dame of Maryland University, 61-57

The four remaining teams will now compete in the semifinals which will be played on Tuesday. St. Mary’s College will host Cedar Crest while Penn College will host Penn State Abington. Find all the details about those contests on the tournament website here: TOURNAMENT PAGE
 

#1 St. Mary’s College of Maryland def. #8 Penn State Harrisburg, 70-58 (BOX SCORE)

This game was a battle in the first half with the teams tied a 31-31 going into the halftime intermission. But the Seahawks came out firing in the second half, defending their top seed. Nine St. Mary’s players registered a bucket led by Saffiyah Gibson who had 14 off the bench. Keira Mason also turned in a nice statline as she scored 12, recorded nine boards and assisted on two baskets.

Lauren Moffatt was in game mode for the Lions as she ended the day with a game-high 19 points to go along with 10 boards.
 

#2 Penn College def. #7 Lancaster Bible College, 76-42 (BOX SCORE)

The Wildcats got out to a quick start with a 20-5 run across the first quarter and never looked back. Four different Penn College players finished with double-digit scoring which helped their 45.9% shooting percentage from the field. Kayla Herzer led all players as she scored 18 off the bench. Gigi Parlante did a bit of everything finishing with a double-double (17pts, 10reb) to go along with a team-high four steals. Lexi Troup and Mia Patterson both ended with 13 points and five boards. Ball distribution came at a high with the Wildcats accumulating 22 assists including six from Breana Valentine.

Raven Hunter had a solid outing on the Charger side as she finished with nine points, eight boards and a trio of assists.

 

#3 Penn State Abington def. #6 Wilson College, 81-39 (BOX SCORE)

Abington was clicking on all cylinders as the Nittany Lions didn’t allow the Phoenix to reach double-digit scoring in three of the four quarters. Tarianda Washington got a big nod as she posted a 13 point, 14 board double-double with three steals. Amirah Hackney led all scorers with 19 points. Tramiya Batts made an impact off the bench as she corralled 11 boards in just 19 minutes of action.

Mackenzie Caldwell-Degnon was the top performer for Wilson as she notched a double-double with 11 boards and 10 points.

 

#4 Cedar Crest College def. #5 Notre Dame of Maryland University, 61-57 (BOX SCORE)

This was the tightest contest of the four with the lead changing hands 13 times throughout the duration of the game. The Gators held a 53-51 lead with just under two minutes to go in the contest but a 10-4 run, highlighted by a Ginger Kerdock 3-pointer solidified the win for the Falcons.

Cedar Crest offense was spread throughout the team as every player who touched the floor scored at least two points. Analyse Rios led the squad with 13 points while Weronika Swojak was just a single board shy of a double-double (10 points). Kerdock’s 3-pointer was big but her ability to distribute was just as important as she tallied six dimes on the evening. Defensively, Samora Merchant controlled the paint with four blocks

Amani Watts had a great outing for the Gators, racking up 12 points and 12 assists. Raina Burns led all scorers on the day as she recorded 24 points in the defeat.
