United East Athletes of the Week - March 31, 2026

LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East conference has announced its Athletes of the Week for March 31, 2026.  Today will include Athletes of the Week from men's and women's tennis, men's and women's outdoor track & field and men's golf. 

This week’s selections included contests through Sunday, March 22.  A total of seven student-athletes from four different institutions were recognized for their performances.

 
Men’s Tennis

Athlete of the Week
Damir Cuturic / JR / Penn State Harrisburg / Camp Hill, Pa. / Cumberland Valley

Damir Cuturic went 5-0 in helping lead Penn State Harrisburg to a 3-0 week. In a win over Alvernia on Tuesday, the junior secured a 6-4, 6-0 win in the No. 1 singles contest before following it up with two victories against Penn College the next day, including a 6-0, 6-2 win in the top singles spot and a 6-0 sweep in the No. 1 doubles matchup along with teammate Cooper Wheeler. He closed out the week with another No. 1 doubles win against Penn State Abington and a 6-0, 6-1 victory in the match's No. 2 solo outing.  

This is Cuturic's first United East weekly accolade of his career.

Women’s Tennis

Athlete of the Week
Reagan Griffith / JR / Cairn University / Doylestown, Pa. / Central Bucks East

Griffith had quite the week playing in the top flight in both singles and doubles for the Highlanders, helping her squad go 2-0 in conference play. The junior swept both of her opponents at the top singles position, winning both games without dropping a single set. Griffith then team up with Madison Searls in the top doubles flight and together the pair captured two 6-1 victories.

This is Griffith's first United East weekly accolade of the season and second of her career (04/16/24)


 
Men’s Golf

Golfer of the Week
Cole Cooper / FY / Wilson College / Virginia Beach, Va. / Salem

Cole Cooper was the individual runner-up in the Pennsylvania Classic among 120 golfers over the weekend. He was third at the end of the first round after he finished with an even 72 on Saturday. He moved up one spot on the leader board on Sunday's final round as he shot a one-over 73. He birdied nine holes throughout the event with four on Saturday and five on Sunday.

This is Cooper's first United East weekly accolade of his career.
 


Women’s Outdoor Track & Field

Track Athlete of the Week
Savannah Owens / SR / St. Mary's College of Maryland / Frederick, Md. / Governor Thomas Johnson

Savannah Owens picked up the school record in the 400m dash, finishing second in the event in 59.34 (4th in region, 1st in United East). Owens knocked off the previous record of 1:00.85 set by Avery Arizzi '26 on May 4, 2025. She also anchored the winning 4x400m relay (4:14.45) while leading off the third-place 4x100m relay (51.22).

This is Owens' first United East weekly accolade of her career in the outdoor season.

 

Field Athlete of the Week
Rocksann Smith / SO / St. Mary's College of Maryland / Baltimore, Md. / Baltimore City College

Rocksann Smith qualified for the AARTFC Outdoor Championships with her school record and personal-best throw of 41.11m (9th in D3, 2nd in region, 1st in United East) in the javelin at the SMCM Seahawk Invitational to win the event. Smith beat her own record of 35.98m set on March 22, 2025. She also anchored the third-place 4x100m relay (51.22) while placing 12th in the 200m in 28.45 (6th in United East).

This is Smith's first Outdoor T&F United East weekly accolade of the season and the third of her career (04/15/25, 03/25/25).
 



Men’s Outdoor Track & Field

Track Athlete of the Week
Sevan Ikeda / FY / Gallaudet University / Fremont, Calif.

Gallaudet University first year Sevan Ikeda impressed in his outdoor debut last Saturday at the Seahawk Invitational where he participated in three events. He captured first place in the 5,000 meters with a time of 16:08.05, added a third-place finish in the 1,500 meters (4:22.82), and placed ninth in the 800 meters (2:18.86).

This is Ikeda's first United East weekly accolade of his career in outdoor.
 

Field Athlete of the Week
Andrew Suarez / JR / Gallaudet University / Fairview, Texas

Gallaudet University junior thrower Andrew Suarez had a standout performance last Saturday at the Seahawk Invitational as the Bison thrower won two throwing events and placed third in another. Suarez won the hammer throw with a personal-best toss of 40.35 meters and claimed first in the shot put with a top mark of 11.68 meters. He also placed third in the discus with a personal-best throw of 34.72 meters.

This is Suarez's first United East weekly accolade of his career in outdoor.
