LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East conference has announced its Athletes of the Week for September 29, 2026.  Today will include Athletes of the Week for Men’s Cross Country, Women’s Cross Country, Men’s Golf, Men’s Tennis and Women’s Tennis

A total of five student-athletes from three different member institutions were recognized for their performances.
  Runner of the Week
Adrian Maldonado / FR / Penn State Berks / Reading, Pa. / Homeschooled

Adrian Maldonado turned in a career-best performance for Penn State Berks in the Crimson Race at the Lock Haven Invitational. Maldonado completed the 8K course in a personal-record time of 27:10, finishing 107th while competing in the meet’s elite race. His performance also ranks as the 10th-fastest 8K time in Penn State Berks men’s cross country history.

Madelyn Holbrook / FR / Penn State Berks / Reading, Pa. / Exeter Township

Madelyn Holbrook turned in a personal-best performance for Penn State Berks at the Lock Haven Invitational. Holbrook completed the 6K course in a career-best time of 25:22.0, placing 50th overall in the field. The performance marked a new personal record for Holbrook at the 6K distance.
  Golfer of the Week
Gavin Fegley / SR / Penn State Harrisburg / Liverpool, Pa. / Greenwood

Gavin Fegley was Penn State Harrisburg's top finisher in the team's dual match victory over Elizabethtown on Thursday afternoon. The senior shot a +2 (74) at Quail Valley Golf Club to win his matchup and claim the day's top score by six strokes.

Ved Pawar / SO / Penn State Harrisburg / Pune, India / Mahindra International School

Ved Pawar helped lead Penn State Harrisburg to a thrilling 4-3 season-opening victory over Lebanon Valley. The reigning United East Rookie of the Year earned a pivotal victory at No. 1 singles, defeating Zach Schrader 7-6, 6-5. Pawar’s win proved crucial in the tightly contested match, helping the Lions secure the one-point victory to open their season.

Katherine Yao / FY / St. Mary’s College of Maryland / North Potomac, Md. / T.S. Wootton

Katherine Yao put together a strong run at the ITA Southeast Regionals, advancing to the final of the Blue 3 East singles draw. Yao opened with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Mary Washington’s Emily Tharpe before defeating Roanoke’s Madison Cockrell, 8-3, in the quarterfinals and Dickinson’s Madison Gerecke, 8-6, in the semifinals. Her run ended with an 8-4 setback to Batten’s Jette Hafermann in the final. Yao also competed alongside Lily Ganjbaksh in the Champ Main doubles draw during the regional tournament.
