LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East has announced its 2023 Baseball All-Conference Teams as well as its major award winners. All-Conference consists of two teams each made up of 13 players (1 catcher, 2 corner infielders, 2 middle infielders, 3 outfielders, 2 starting pitchers, 1 relief pitcher, 1 Designated Hitter and 1 At-Large bid). The major award winners were as follows:

Player of the Year - Justin Fogel (Penn State Abington)

Pitcher of the Year - Brian Coburn (Lancaster Bible College)

Rookie of the Year - Carlos Irizarry (Penn State Harrisburg)

Coach of the Year - Chris Howard (Penn College)

Fogel was dominant from the plate this season, leading the conference in nearly every offensive category. The junior currently holds a batting average of .511 which tops not only the conference but also leads all of Division III. That .511 has come on a league best 67 hits (28th in the nation) while his slugging percentage of .969 ranks fourth in the country. Fogel also ranks in the top-20 in the nation in home runs (14), total bases (127), RBI per game (1.61) and on-base percentage (.561). This season, the Yardley, Pa. native was named to the D3baseball.com National Team of the Week three times while being named the United East Player of the Week three times as well. One of his top performances came in a win over Wells College in which he went 5-for-6 with five runs scored and five RBI.

Coburn excelled in multiple areas for the Chargers all season, but where he really impressed was when he stood on the mound. The junior topped the league in earned-run average, accumulating just a 2.72 ERA on the year. Free bases were nearly non-existent against the righty as he only allowed seven walks in 53.0 innings pitched, averaging 1.19 bases-on-balls per nine innings (21st least in the country). Over his time manning the rubber, the Palmyra, Pa. racked up 37 punch outs and five victories. One of his top performances came in a win over where he not only picked up a complete game, 10 strikeout win but also registered a pair of hits including a double.

Irizarry showed immediate promise for the Lions as the rookie appeared in 34 of Harrisburg’s 40 games this year. Offense came easy to the infielder, registering multi-hit games 11 times and games with 3+ hits five times. Irizarry finished the regular season with 41 RBI on 42 hits, his RBI total ranking 8th in the conference. Irizarry hits on a consistent basis too as his batting average of .393 ranks 9th in the United East. One of his top performances came in a win over Penn College as he went 4-for-6 with a home run and seven RBI.

Howard guided his team to a 20-win season for the second time in as many years, which included 14 wins in conference play. Under his tutelage, the Wildcats offense has been performing well, posting nearly a .300 batting average and 108 extra-base hits. Penn College used a midseason 9-1 stretch to help cement their place in second in the upcoming 2023 Baseball Championship. Howard also saw four players collect All-Conference honors this season.
