Penn State Behrend Claims Outdoor Track Title; Three New Meet Records Set

ERIE, Pa. - The United East held the Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships on the weekend of May 4-5 on the campus of Penn State Behrend.  Penn State Behrend would repeat their championship from the indoor season, winning the outdoor league title for the eighth straight year while three new meet records were set, all coming from Gallaudet University.

Penn State Behrend ran away with the team championship, picking up nine gold medals and 296 total points.  Alfred State came in second place with 119 points on the strength of a gold medal in the 400m Hurdles, four individuals in the top eight of the javelin, and a second place 4x400 relay.

Alex Cotton was named the Field Athlete of the Year after winning the Shot Put and coming in second to teammate Dan Dabrowski in the Discus.  Greg Cooper was named Coach of the Year.  Both Cotton and Cooper repeated their awards from the indoor season.

Gallaudet was in third place and set three new meet records on the weekend.  Eric Gregory lowered his 400m mark from 2023, taking almost a full second from his existing record moving from 48.17 seconds to 47.28 seconds.  Gregory’s 400m mark is currently 17th in the country.

The two Gallaudet relays set records as well with the 4x400 team taking a second and half off their 2023 record, moving from 3:23.52 to 3:21.15 seconds.  On the 4x100 side, the Gallaudet team broke the previous time of 42.72 seconds set in 2019 by Penn State Behrend, running a 41.91 this weekend.

Gregory was named the Track Athlete of the Year at the end of the meet, repeating the honor from the indoor season.  This meet, Gregory won the 100m, 200m, 400m, and was a part of the team that won the 4x100m Relay, and 4x400m Relay.

St. Mary’s College of Maryland came in fourth with Ty Tindal winning the Long Jump and coming in second to Gregory from Gallaudet in both the 100m and 200m.  Tindal was named the Rookie of the Year after winning the same award during the indoor season.

Penn State Harrisburg came in fifth place on the strength of gold medals in the Pole Vault, Triple Jump, and 100m Hurdles.  Mitchell Gray from Lancaster Bible won the 5,000m and came in second in the 1,500m as the Chargers came in sixth place.  Zy’Mere Covington from Hilbert came in second in the Triple Jump to lead them to a seventh-place finish.
