Men's Outdoor Track and Field 5/22/2024 12:00:00 PM Gregory, Wetzel, Brown Set for NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships INDIANAPOLIS, In. - Gallaudet University track and field have three individuals participating in the NCAA Division III Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships, taking place May 23-25 in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Eric Gregory will be competing in the 100-, 200-, and 400-meter races while Oceana Brown qualified in the 200-meter dash and Hannah Wetzel qualified in the high jump. For each individual even contested, including the decathlon and heptathlon, the top 22 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. For each relay event, the top 16 declared relay teams, one per institution, were accepted into the competition. The championships will be held May 23-25 at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and hosted by Coastal Carolina University and Myrtle Beach Sports. Gallaudet University: Eric Gregory (100m, 200m, 400m) Senior sprinter and reigning United East Track Athlete of the Year both Indoor and Outdoor seasons, Eric Gregory qualified for three events this year: the 100-, 200-, and 400-meter dash. In the 100-meter, Gregory qualified with the 13-fastest time in Division III this season with a 10.48 mark. In the 200-meters, Gregory has the 4th-fastest time (20.85 seconds) and is the top-ranked 400-meter runner in the country with a 46.30 second mark. Gregory makes his fourth appearance in the NCAA Outdoor Championships and is a three-time All-American in outdoor track & field. He is a two-time defending national champion in the 400-meter dash. In 2022, he placed third in the 200-meter dash to earn All-American honors. In 2019, Gregory placed 10th overall in the 200-meter dash and just missed the finals as the top eight advanced out of the preliminary heats. The 200-meter dash preliminaries will be held on Thursday, May 23, at 6:55 p.m., while the 400-meter preliminaries will be held on Friday, May 24, at 5:15 p.m., and the 100-meter preliminaries at 5:45 p.m. The finals for the 400-, 100-, and 200-meter events will be held on Saturday, May 25, at 5:20 p.m., 5:40 p.m., and 6:50 p.m., respectively. Gallaudet University: Hannah Wetzel (High Jump) Senior jumper Hannah Wetzel qualified for her first appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships after making the cut in the women’s high jump. This is the second overall national appearance for Wetzel after qualifying for indoor championship earlier this year. Wetzel was named Co-Field Athlete of the Year at the United East Championships earlier in May after tying her own league record in the High Jump (1.60m), setting a new record in the Long Jump (5.57m; previous was 5.38m), winning the Triple Jump, and running on the winning 4x100-meter relay. Wetzel made the NCAA-qualifying mark with the 18th-highest jump in the outdoor season (5 feet, 6 inches; 1.68 meters) clearing the bar on April 20 at the Gallaudet University Invitational. Loras College junior Grace Ally has the top mark in the country with a jump of 1.75 meters (5 feet, 8.75 inches). The women’s high jump begins at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 24. Gallaudet University: Ocean Brown (200m) First-year sprinter Oceana Brown makes her NCAA outdoor championships debut after qualifying in the 200-meter dash. Brown’s top time of 24.32 seconds was set on May 13 at the Widener University Final Qualifier. Brown recently won the 100- and 200-meter dash and ran a leg on the winning 4x100-meter relay at this month's United East Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Brown set new league records in both the 100m and 200m, lowering the 100m mark from 12.07 seconds to 12.05 seconds and the 200m record from 25.35 to 24.63 seconds. Brown has posted the 13th-fastest time in the 200-meter dash this season. University of Wisconsin-La Crosse sophomore Lauren Jarrett holds the top mark in the 200-meters with a time of 23.97 seconds.
