INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - For the first time in conference history, a United East student-athlete will participate in the U.S. Olympic Team Trials. Gallaudet University All-American sprinter
Eric Gregory (Metairie, La.), the three-time defending NCAA Division III National Champion in the 400-meter dash, will don the buff and blue uniform one more time next Friday, June 21, in the preliminaries of the men's 400-meter dash.
The 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials are being held June 21-30 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., on the campus of the University of Oregon. This is the fifth straight U.S. Olympic Team Trials being hosted in "TrackTown USA" and eighth overall (1972, 1976, 1980, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020, 2024).
Gregory is one of 35 runners in the 400-meter dash that either qualified or was accepted by USA Track and Field, the national governing body for track and field in the United States.
There are 16 runners who automatically qualified for the 400-meter dash after they posted a time of 45.20 seconds or faster during the year. Michael Norman Jr. (Nike) recorded the fastest time this season (44.21 seconds). Norman finished fifth at the 2020 Olympics in the 400-meter dash with a time of 44.31 seconds.
Gregory's fastest time this past season was 45.73 set at the 2024 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in Myrtle Beach, S.C., as he won a third straight national title. Gregory's time was under 46.00 seconds to meet the minimum entry standards.
Gregory's race will be streamed on Peacock and will air on television on USA on Friday, June 21. The 400-meter dash preliminaries will take place at 6:48 p.m. (EST) / 3:48 p.m. (PST). When heat sheets and live results are released, we will update this story with that information.
