United East Athletes of the Week - September 3, 2024

LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East conference has announced its Athletes of the Week for September 3, 2024.  Today will include Athletes of the Week for Men’s and Women’s Cross Country.

This week’s selections included contests from Friday, August 30 through Sunday, September 1.  A total of 2 student-athletes were recognized for their performances.
 


Women’s Cross Country

Runner of the Week
Clarisse Hayden / So / Cairn University / Bangkok, Thailand / International Community School

Hayden took home 1st place in the Blue/Gold Invitational hosted by TCNJ on Friday evening, finishing ahead of a pack of 36 other runners with a time of 12:19.0 at a pace of 6:11.6. Hayden picked up right where she left off in 2023 after finishing 2nd in the United East Championship and earning a 1st Place finish at the Cairn Cup races last October.  This is the first Runner of the Week award for Hayden, who earned a First Team All-Conference nod in 2023 after a runner-up finish at the Championship meet.
 


Men’s Cross Country

Mitchell Gray / Sr / Lancaster Bible College / Schaefferstown, Pa. / ELCO

The reigning United East Runner of the Year started the 2024 season with yet another first place finish at the Baltimore Metro Meet on Friday evening ahead of 76 other participants. The senior ran the 5000-meter race at a time of 16:10.03, a full 10-seconds ahead of second place. This is the eighth Runner of the Week award for Gray (October 24, 2023, September 19, 2023, September 5, 2023, October 24, 2022, October 3, 2022, September 19, 2022, and September 5, 2022), who is also reigning United East champion for the years 2022 and 2023.
