WASHINGTON, D.C. – Penn State Harrisburg captured the first-ever United East Conference Women's Flag Football Championship on Saturday afternoon. The second-seeded Lions edged third-seeded Cairn, 27-21, the semifinal game before a 12-7 victory in the championship final against Gallaudet in the nation's capital.
Penn State Harrisburg clung to a touchdown in each of the second and third quarters to defeat the top-seeded Bison to claim the inaugural flag football championship. Nadia King completed 32-of-40 passes for 218 yards and both TDs to Morgan Cruz and J'ene Thompson. Cruz and Thompson both finished with four catches for 40 and 29 yards, respectively.
Championship MVP, Bianca Williams led the Lions' defense with a sack and 10 tackles while Perez also registered an interception on defense.
Gallaudet's Giana Visco aired it out for 309 yards (34-for-47) and one touchdown to Jada Zarembka with 10:05 left in the fourth quarter. Citrine Lummer was the Bison's top target with 18 receptions for 142 yards. Lummer finished with 11 receptions and 121 yards.
Penn State Harrisburg bested Cairn University, 27-21, in the second semifinal semifinal game on Saturday.
Gallaudet reached the championship game with a 27-6 victory against fourth-seeded Cedar Crest in the first game of Championship Saturday.
The Bison scored just before the half to take a 6-0 lead and outscored the Falcons, 21-6, in the second half to reach the final.
Visco threw for 177 yards, completing 21-of-35 with two TDs and added 67 yards on the ground. Zarembka reeled in six receptions for 61 yards and a touchdown while Tiana Starayev caught four passes fore 47 yards and a TD for the Bison. Citrine Lummer and Evangeline Diaz both picked off two interceptions on a defense that limited the Falcons to just 94 yards.
LaMiah Clemons completed 7-of-18 pass attempts for 69 yards and a touchdown to Ginger Kerdock.Kerdock also picked off two passes on defense and Zhane Pollard also had a pick.
