United East Athletes of the Week - January 14, 2025

LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East conference has announced its Athletes of the Week for January 14, 2025.  Today will include Athletes of the Week for Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field. 

This week’s selections included contests from Monday, January 6 through Sunday, January 12.  A total of 4 student athletes were recognized for their performances.

  • Track Athlete of the Week

    Chay’La Rivers / Jr / St. Mary’s College of Maryland / Baltimore, Md. / Reach! Partnership School

    Chay'La Rivers took 15th in the 60m hurdles at the St. Thomas Aquinas Spartan Invitational with a school record time of 9.58, which leads the conference and ranks eighth in the Mid-Atlantic region. Rivers posted a time of 8.42 in the 60m dash, which is good for second in the league and 33rd in the region. She also clocked a 28.13 in the 200m to rank third in the United East and 41st in the Mid-Atlantic. Rivers notched a distance of 4.49m in the long jump to sit second in the league and 45th in the region.

    This is the first indoor Athlete of the Week award for Rivers, who was the gold medalist in the 60m Hurdles in the 2024 United East Indoor Championships. 

    Field Athlete of the Week

    Martha Weaver / So / Lancaster Bible College / Quarryville, Pa. / Solanco HS

    Weaver continues to improve in throws for the Chargers as she finished on the podium in both shot put and the weight throw at the LVC Invite this past Friday. Weaver finished first overall in the shot put with a distance of 10.90-meters helping her qualify for the NCCAA Nationals. She also finished second overall in the weight throw with a distance of 12.33-meters. Weaver is top three in the conference for both events.

    This is the first indoor Athlete of the Week award for Weaver who earned a 5th place finish in the shot put and a 4th place finish at the 2024 United East Indoor Championships.

  • Track Athlete of the Week

    Moses McRae / FY / St. Mary’s College of Maryland

    Moses McRae clocked a 23.65 in the 200m, which ranks fourth in the conference and 46th in the Mid-Atlantic region, at the St. Thomas Aquinas Spartan Invitational. McRae also posted a 52.39 in the 400m, which is second in the league and 25th in the region.

    This is the first Athlete of the Week award for McRae.

     

    Field Athlete of the Week

    Aidan Miller / FY / Lancaster Bible College 

    Miller was able to finish second overall at the LVC Invite at Lebanon Valley College on Friday with a triple jump of 12.45-meters. Miller qualified for the NCCAA Nationals and is currently second overall in the conference in the event. 

    This is the first Athlete of the Week award for Miller.
