United East Athletes of the Week - January 28, 2025

LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East conference has announced its Athletes of the Week for January 28, 2025.  Today will include Athletes of the Week for Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field. 

This week’s selections included contests from Monday, January 20 through Sunday, January 26.  A total of 4 student athletes were recognized for their performances.

  • Track Athlete of the Week

    Molly Wagner / GR / Carlow University / Pleasant Hills, Pa. / Thomas Jefferson HS

    One of Carlow's top runners, Wagner excelled in her one event this weekend at the Spire Institute. The grad student clocked an 8.07 in the 60-meter dash, earning her 14th in a field of 81 runners. The time was also good enough to be the second best time by a Division III student-athlete and currently tops the United East.

    This is the first indoor track and field Athlete of the Week award for Wagner.

     

    Field Athlete of the Week

    Martha Weaver / SO / Lancaster Bible College / Quarryville, Pa. / Solanco

    Weaver has continued to see improvement in all throws this season with a top ten finish in shot put with a distance of 10.60-meter and a 14th place finish in weight throw at 12.87 meters. With Weaver's weight throw, she sets a new school record as well as qualifies for the NCCAA National Indoor Championships. 

    This is the second indoor track and field Athlete of the Week award for Weaver as she was tagged the Field Athlete of the Week on January 14, 2025 as well.

  • Track Athlete of the Week

    David Helms / JR / Lancaster Bible College / Lampeter, Pa. / Lampeter-Strasburg

    Helms has translated his success from cross-country to that of the track finishing fifth overall in the 5000-meter run with a time of 15:51.99. Helms is continuing to climb the ranks as he reaches fifth out of 29 contestants on Saturday. His time currently ranks second in the United East

    This is the first indoor track and field Athlete of the Week award for Helms.

     

    Field Athlete of the Week

    Luke Richardson / FR / Lancaster Bible College / Lancaster, Pa. / Lancaster County Christian

    Richardson reached new heights this past weekend with two top ten finishes in the high jump and triple jump. In high jump, Richardson set a new personal record with a height of 1.82 meters to place fourth overall. He followed it up with a 12.14 meter triple jump which placed him seventh overall. Both of which qualified him for the NCCAA National Indoor Championships. Richardson now holds the current top mark in the high jump and the fifth in the triple.

    This is the first indoor track and field Athlete of the Week award for Richardson.
