Seahawks to Take on Dickinson in NCAA Field Hockey Championship

LATHAM, N.Y. - The St. Mary’s College of Maryland field hockey team has earned its spot in the 2025 NCAA Championship and will square off against Dickinson in the Opening Round of the tournament. That game will take place on Wednesday with a time still to be determined.

The advancing team will go on to square off against the winner of Salisbury and Denison. That game will take place on Saturday. Find the full Championship bracket HERE: NCAA FIELD HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIP

St. Mary’s College (13-5) earned its way to the Big Dance as they collected a second-straight conference title downing Penn State Harrisburg in double overtime. In a match between the top two seeds, the Seahawks needed just over 75 minutes as tournament MVP, Emma Watkins, was able to find the back of the net to end a scoreless draw.

A shutout victory should come as no surprise for St. Mary’s College as they rank fourth in the country for shutouts per game (0.61). Sophia Kent has played a large role in that as the netminder’s 82.2 save percentage ranks 21st in Division III. Jena Vanskiver also deserves a tip of the cap as her seven defensive saves top the conference.

Offensively, the Seahawks have seen 14 different players light the lamp this season but none more than Brenna Ziegler who has registered 14 goals. Watkins adds a bit of a clutch gene as well netting seven game-winning goals this year.

Dickinson comes into the tournament as an at-large selection. The Devils, who hold a record of 18-3 on the season, made it to the Final of the Centennial Conference Championship before being defeated by nationally-ranked Johns Hopkins. Dickinson was ranked 12th in the last National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) poll.
