United East Posts Women's Cross Country All-Conference Teams & Major Award Winners

MEDIA, Pa. - The United East Conference has announced its All-Conference Teams and Major Award winners for Women’s Cross Country. All-Conference, which consist of three teams of nine runners each, are determined by finishes at the United East Championship which took place at Penn State Brandywine on Saturday.

Runner of the Year - Clarisse Hayden (Cairn University)

Rookie of the Year - MaKayla Reichel (Penn State Harrisburg)

Coach of the Year - Silas Eckenroad (Lancaster Bible College)

For the second time in as many seasons, Hayden was the first to cross the finish line at the United East Women’s Cross Country Championships. This year, the junior sprinted over the line in 23:54.4 which was over 25 seconds faster than the second place finisher. Hayden has dominated the XC season, consistently finding herself on podiums. This season alone, she garnered United East Runner of the Week nods twice, adding to her five from last season.

Reichel saved her best stuff for the last races of the season, becoming the first-ever Harrisburg runner to earn Rookie of the Year honors in Women’s Cross Country. The first year runner paced a 25:11.28 which earned her sixth overall. Just one race prior to the Championship, Reichel posted the third fastest time in program history and earned United East Runner of the Week honors.

Coach Eckenroad has put together a tremendous team, helping him earn Coach of the Year honors. Eckenroad guided four student-athletes to All-Conference honors including a trio that finished 3-4-5 at Saturday’s Championship. His efforts helped the Chargers take second place as a team.
