United East Athletes of the Week - February 11, 2025

LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East conference has announced its Athletes of the Week for February 11, 2025.  Today will include Athletes of the Week for Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field. 

This week’s selections included contests from Monday, February 3 through Sunday, February 9.  A total of 4 student athletes were recognized for their performances.

  • Track Athlete of the Week

    David Helms / JR / Lancaster Bible College / Lampeter, Pa. / Lampeter-Strasburg

    Helms had himself a record breaking performance at the NCCAA Indoor Championships this past Friday setting a new school record in the 5000-meter run with a time of 15:40.92. With that time he was able to break his former teammate Mitchell Gray's record while finishing 13th overall in the hefty field of runners. Helms is currently leading the conference in the 5000m event after his performance last week. 

    This is the second indoor track and field Athlete of the Week award for Helms, taking the award on January 28, 2025 as well.

     

    Field Athlete of the Week

    Andrew Bibbs / SO / Gallaudet University / Columbia, S.C. / South Carolina School for the Deaf & Blind

    Gallaudet University sophomore jumper Andrew Bibbs (Columbia, S.C.) placed second in the high jump after he cleared 1.75 meters (5 feet, 8.75 inches) out of 13 athletes last Saturday at the Frank Colden Invitational hosted by Ursinus College. Bibbs also participated in the triple jump and long jump as he went ninth overall (11.66 meters) and 17th place (5.52 meters) respectively.

    This is the first indoor track and field Athlete of the Week award for Bibbs this season and second of his career (February 24, 2024).

     

  • Track Athlete of the Week

    Seana Dougherty / FY / Lancaster Bible College / Lancaster, Pa. / Homeschool

    Dougherty had another record setting performance this past week, this time at the NCCAA Indoor Championships held at Cedarville University. Dougherty ran a time of 19:05.58 to place 8th overall in the 5000-meter run while setting a new school record in the event. Dougherty is now leading the conference by a whole minute in the event. 

    This is the second indoor track and field Athlete of the Week award for Dougherty as she was named the Track Athlete of the Week on January 21, 2024 as well.

     

    Field Athlete of the Week

    Midajah Davis / SR / Gallaudet University / Roanoke, Va. / Patrick Henry

    Gallaudet University senior Midajah Davis (Roanoke, Va.) jumped to the top of the leaderboard on her first throw in the shot put event last Saturday at the Frank Colden Invitational hosted by Ursinus College. Davis threw the shot 12.81 meters (42 feet, 0.5 inches) and held on to win the event that featured throwers from Division I, II and III institutions. The 12.81 meters mark is a season best for Davis. She surpassed 12 meters on her fifth throw with a toss of 12.21 meters (40 feet, 0.75 inches).

    This is the second indoor track and field Athlete of the Week award for Davis this season and her third in her career (December 10, 2024 / January 30, 2024)
