Wilson and Penn State Berks Advance in Baseball Tournament

LATHAM, N.Y. - Opening round games were completed on Tuesday afternoon as the 2025 United East Baseball Championships got underway.

#9 Wilson College def. #8 Saint Elizabeth University, 9-5 - Box Score

Wilson College made the drive to Saint Elizabeth University on Tuesday afternoon and came away with a 9-5 victory in the opening round of the conference playoffs. Five runs scored in the first two innings were all that was needed as the Phoenix added two more in the fifth, one in the sixth, and one in the eighth, running out to a 9-0 lead. 

Jordan Daphney went 4-6 at the plate with two RBI and a home run while Ryan Torres added another solo shot to the tally.  Harry Middlebrooks had three hits, including two doubles, and four RBI as the Phoenix offense had 12 hits and drew nine walks in the afternoon. 
Chase Supensky threw seven innings, scattering four hits, striking out four, and giving up no runs.

Saint Elizabeth added five runs over the final two frames, but a late rally came up short.  Richard Sherman III went 3-4 with a home run and three RBI and Trevor Policastro had two hits on the day as well.

#10 Penn State Berks def. #7 Lancaster Bible College, 10-4 - Box Score

Penn State Berks defeated Lancaster Bible on Tuesday afternoon by a final score of 10-4.  The Nittany Lions jumped on the Chargers early, scoring nine unanswered runs over the first five innings: with eight of them coming in the first three innings.

Berks' Landon Eyster went 2-3 out of the leadoff spot with a triple, 3 RBI, and three stolen bases to spark the offense. Jacob Berzonski added another two RBI, and the team drew nine walks in the afternoon. Parker Zook threw 7.0 scoreless innings, giving up just three hits and striking out eight batters on 110 pitches to pick up the victory.

Lancaster Bible mounted a late rally in the bottom of the ninth inning scoring three runs, but it was ultimately too late to overcome the early deficit.  The Chargers were led at the plate by Owen Shimmel who went 2-4 at the plate with an RBI and 4.0 Innings Pitched: giving up one unearned run and five strikeouts.

Wilson and Penn State Berks move on to this weekend’s best-of-three series.  Keystone College, the number one seed and regular season champion, will host Wilson College while Penn State Berks travels to number two seed Penn State Harrisburg.

In other best-of-three series, #3 St. Mary’s College (Md.) hosts #6 Penn State Abington and #4 Penn College will welcome #5 Cairn University.  All series begin with a doubleheader on Friday afternoon.  Single games, if necessary, will take place on Saturday.
