United East Announces Spring Senior Scholar Athletes

LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East has announced its Senior Scholar Athlete Award winners for the Spring season. This award recognizes a senior who truly represents the student-athlete model by performing in competition, in the classroom and around the community. 

This season, 10 student-athletes from seven different member and associate member institutions were recognized:

Brendan Henn

Penn State Harrisburg // Baseball

Henn has been an instrumental part of the success the Harrisburg baseball has seen over the past four seasons, which includes two United East titles and four trips to the NCAA Tournament. Over that time, Henn has etched his name in the Lion record books, ranking in the top five for hits (220), runs (179), RBI (146), stolen bags (50) and walks (108). His efforts have been applauded along the way earning All-Region honors twice and All-Conference honors three times, including First Team nods the last two years. In 2023, Henn also picked up Tournament Most Valuable Player honors at the United East Championship.

In the classroom, the Kinesiology major with a Biology minor has been impressive as well. He graduated with a 3.75, earning United East All-Academic honors every season he was eligible. The Matamoras, Pa. native is also a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Leadership fraternity as well as a Kinesiology club member. Henn has also been an active member in his community, including volunteering with the Harrisburg men’s basketball team in a Kinesiology led injury prevention program and helping the local baseball sports complex with event facilitation.

Madelyn Lehigh

Penn State Harrisburg  //  Softball

If you have followed United East softball over the last few years, you may already know Lehigh well as she was consistently a top player in the conference. She’d finish out her Harrisburg career as the program leader in nearly every statistical hitting category including the slashes (.468/.534/.710). She is also the only player in program history to hit the 200-hit mark, finishing her career with 236. Lehigh was hitting for extra bags as well, finishing her career as the active triples leader (31) across all three NCAA Divisions. Her play has led to a number of accolades including four-time All-Conference (3x First Team), 2022 Rookie of the Year, 2024 Player of the Year, 2x All-Region and a 2x statistical leader in Division III.

Her play on the field matched her efforts in the classroom as she closed out her academic career with a 3.70 in Human Development and Family Studies. She saw herself earn College Sport Communicator Academic All-District three times and United East Scholar Athlete honors four times. She was also inducted into the leadership fraternity, Chi Alpha Sigma.

A four year member of SAAC, Lehigh was active in her community both on campus and in the Harrisburg area. She participated in Wreaths Across America which worked to honor fallen service members with wreaths during the holiday times. She also worked alongside two different local grade schools to help with student programs and field trip chaperoning.

She became a NCAA statistical champion, program record holder in nearly every offensive category, and a 3x Academic All-District honoree. She continually demonstrated unmatched drive, focus, and leadership. Sarah Generoso

Notre Dame of Maryland University  //  Women’s Lacrosse

Generoso has been a standout player on both her team and within the conference for all four of her years as a Gator. The draw control specialist picked up her 200th restart win in the final game of her career, becoming just the second Notre Dame player to ever hit that mark. Over her four seasons, the midfielder amassed 79 points on 61 goals and 18 assists while also picking up 118 groundballs. Her actions on the field led to All-Conference honors all four seasons including First Team honors in ‘23 and ‘24. 

A nursing major, Generoso punctuated the “student” part of student-athlete. She maintained a 3.89 GPA while earning the Nursing School’s “Pride in Practice Award” in both 2023 and 2024. She also collected Dean’s List and Scholar Athlete honors every semester she was eligible. In the Community, Generoso works closely with the Knott Scholarship Foundation, participating in the annual book drive, networking events, Service Days and other events.

Quinnten Hatfield 

St. Mary’s College of Maryland //  Men’s Lacrosse

Quite possibly the best player to come out of the conference in the sport of men’s lacrosse, Hatfield was a key factor in the Seahawk success. A true iron man starting in 77 of 78 possible games during his four years, teh short stick midfielder was pivotal on the 50-50 balls, scooping 153 groundballs in his career. Taking more of a defensive roll, Hatfield also caused 57 turnovers. Over that time, he still managed to tuck away 22 goals and assist on 10 others. His actions made waves as he was a three-time USILA All-American Honorable Mention recipient, the first-ever three timer for a United East player. He also collected All-Conference honors a trio of times.

A whiz on the field, Hatfield was possibly more impressive in the classroom as he maintained a GPA of a 3.98 while majoring in Physics and Computer Science and minoring in mathematics. The Summa Cum Laude graduate was a part of two honors societies, including Chi Alpha Sigma (student-athletes) and Sigma Pi Sigma (physics and astronomy) while also serving as a teaching assistant for the Physics department. He earned the Elite 20 award twice and will be working as a civilian researcher for the US Army Command, Control, Communication, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Center - Graduated.

In his community, Hatfield was an active member of the St. Mary’s College SAAC, participating in their trick-or-treat community event and their Special Olympics Field Day.

As a captain, he was asked to mentor so many young men and he did so with ease as he continued to put forth the work he needed to accomplish something like this. Tristan Worlock

Wilson College  //  Men’s Golf

Worlock played a large role in helping the Phoenix men’s golf program gain notoriety within the conference. A three year member of the squad, Worlock worked his way into the top spot in the lineup, becoming team captain in the process. In 2024-25, Worlock rewrote the history books as he notched the school record for single day low score (77) and two-day low score (160).

A political science major with a business administration major, the DeRuyter N.Y. native held a GPA of 3.50 and was a consistent Dean’s List recipient and United East Scholar Athlete. Worlock was in constant service of the Wilson community, especially in the athletic department where he spent his time as a game and event manager.

Tristan Worlock was a leader/contributor and record holder for the Wilson Golf Team. He improved rapidly and expressed his love of the sport through his practice and play. Always helping others and his passion for golf and his academics were always on display to others. Giselle Harris

St. Mary’s College of Maryland  //  Women’s Tennis

Harris played four years of tennis for the Seahawks, helping her squad pick up two conference titles in the process. Over her time, she played primarily in the middle of the singles lineup, amassing 33 wins across her career. The Easton, Md. native also competed in doubles, picking up 43 wins playing in the second and third flight. Harris collected All-Conference accolades in singles and doubles every single season, including a First Team singles nod three times and a First Team Doubles nod twice.

In the classroom, Harris dove into numerous disciplines and excelled in all of them as she posted a 3.99 GPA while double-majoring in Psychology and Spanish and minoring in Economics. Her efforts garnered Summa Cum Laude honors at graduation and she was inducted into both Chi Alpha Sigma and Phi Beta Kappa. Harris used her spanish to aid the community, helping out a family in which english was a second language.

Devon Gorel

St. Mary’s College of Maryland  //  Men’s Tennis

Gorel was a static piece in the Seahawk lineup towards the end of his career, but also was able to call himself a United East Champion in 2022 and 2023. Playing in the middle of the lineup, Gorel nabbed 12 wins in singles play and earned his first ever doubles win in 2025. A leader on the Seahawk squad, Gorel was named team captain in both his junior and senior year.

His success on the court aligned with his success in the classroom as he posted a 4.00 while double majoring in Computer Science and Mathematics. The recipient of the men’s tennis Elite 20 award the last three seasons, the Jessup, Md. native graduated with Summa Cum Laude honors and was the valedictorian of his class. Gorel also aided in the community, volunteering his time with the team teaching local kids the basics of tennis.

Jordan Yoder

Lancaster Bible College  //  Men’s Volleyball

Yoder just had a pair of seasons with the Chargers, but he made the most of them as he helped his squad capture a United East title both years. Over his tenure, the Winfield, Pa. native maintained a hitting percentage of .209 while racking up 331 kills. Yoder was a six rotation player also collecting 223 digs and 44 aces over his two years. His efforts helped earn him a spot on the All-Conference First Team in 2025 and he was also named the 2025 Most Valuable Player at the United East Championship.

In the classroom, Yoder maintained a GPA of a 3.56, collecting United East Scholar Athlete honors both seasons he was eligible. Where he also really excelled was in the community, working with Building Bridges which is an organization that supports veterans and their mental health. Perhaps even more impressive is his “Heat for Haiti” volleyball tournament in which hosts himself. The event has been running for seven years and is a tournament (that hosted over 60 teams last year) put on to raise money for missionary organizations in Haiti.

Mackayla Reed

Cedar Crest College  // Women’s Outdoor Track & Field

Reed only competed on her Track and Field team in her senior year, but her efforts helped create a lasting impact as the Falcons Second Place finish at the United East Championships was its best ever. Reed earned the gold medal in the 3000m Steeple Chase and posted the second fastest time in the conference. She also earned ninth in the 1500m. Aside from her track career, Reed was a four-year women’s soccer player. 

In the classroom, Reed double majored in Forensic Science and Chemistry while minoring in Biology and was able to maintain a GPA of a 3.78. Her efforts helped her earn access to four different honor societies as well as earn her United East Scholar Athlete four-years straight. Vice President of SAAC, the Duncansville, Pa. native was very active in her community working specifically with Community Bike Works to help children not only with classwork but also how to repair bicycles. She also spent time aiding in youth soccer camps alongside her Falcon teammates.

Her incredible work ethic allowed her to not only excel in the classroom, but go from an inexperienced runner, to a United East Conference Champion in the steeplechase in the matter of a season. Cotis Martinez 

Gallaudet University  //  Men’s Outdoor Track & Field

A standout thrower for the Bison track & field team, Martinez epitomized what it meant to be a Division III athlete. Throwing both the Javelin and the Discus, Martinez picked up a bronze in the 2023 CSAC Outdoor Championships, tossing his best ever javelin with a mark of 44.21m. His top discus finish at championship happened in ‘23 and this year as he placed sixth both times. Martine was also a four-year member of the Bison football team.

In the classroom, the Physical Education & Recreation major graduated with a GPA of 3.61, taking home CSC All-District honors twice and being named as a Chi Alpha Sigma honoree. In his community, the Turlock, Calif. Native worked with the National Marrow Donor Program to help get students and community members signed up to “be a match”.
