United East Athletes of the Week - February 3, 2026

LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East conference has announced its Athletes of the Week for February 3, 2026.  Today will include Players of the Week from Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field.

This week’s selections included contests through Sunday, February 1.  A total of four student-athletes from two different member institutions were recognized for their performances.
 
Women’s Indoor Track & Field

Field Athlete of the Week
Elly Bruner / JR /. Lancaster Bible College / Lancaster, Pa. / Lampeter-Strasburg

Bruner continued her streak as the top field athlete in the conference as she showed out at the PLEX Shootout hosted by Alvernia on Saturday. The junior improved upon her conference-leading long jump mark, leaping 5.39 meters which set a new personal best. She then tied her United East topping mark in the high jump as she lept 1.60 meters for a bronze finish in the event.

Track Athlete of the Week
Savannah Owens / Senior / St. Mary's College of Maryland / Frederick, Md. / Gov. Thomas Johnson

For the third time this season, Savannah Owens broke the 400m dash record. Owens clocked a season-best 1:01.46 (first in UEC, ninth in Mid-Atlantic) to break her previous mark of 1:01.71 from the Finn Pincus Invite (Jan. 17). She went ninth overall in the 400m dash as she claimed the top spot in her heat. Owens also led off the ninth-place 4x400m relay (season-best 4:34.93 - first in UEC) while taking 26th in the 60m dash with a PR of 8.27 (second in UEC, 35th in Mid-Atlantic).

This is Owens' second career weekly accolade (12/09/25).
 
 
Men’s Indoor Track & Field

Track Athlete of the Week
David Helms / JR / Lancaster Bible College / Lancaster, Pa. / Lampeter-Strasburg

Helms continues to dominate in the track space, competing in three different events this weekend at the PLEX shootout hosted by Alvernia. The junior topped the field of 33 runners in the 3K with a time of 8:57.72 which was just a few seconds off of his personal best set earlier this year. He would then set a PR in the 800-meter as his time of 24:04.09 edged out the conference lead by under .5 seconds. Helms capped the day as the final leg of the DMR, helping set a new school record in the process.

This is Helms' fifth weekly accolade of the year and his seventh of his career (1/27/26, 1/20/26, 1/13/26, 12/09/25, 02/11/25, 01/28/25).

Field Athlete of the Week
Zack Kralec / Senior / St. Mary's College of Maryland / Monkton, Md. / Hereford

Zack Kralec placed sixth in the pole vault with a height of 4.30m at the George Mason Patriot Games as the highest finishing Division III athlete.

This is the first indoor track and field Athlete of the Week award for Kralec this year and fifth of his career (2/4/25, 1/21/25, 1/23/24, 1/16/24)
