United East Athletes of the Week - March 9, 2026

LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East conference has announced its Athletes of the Week for March 9, 2026.  Today will include Players of the Week from men's volleyball, men's lacrosse, women's lacrosse, baseball and softball awards. This also marks the first time in conference history that the United East willbe awarding its women's Flag Football weekly accolades

This week’s selections included contests through Sunday, March 8.  A total of 12 student-athletes from six different member institutions were recognized for their performances.

 
Men’s Volleyball

Offensive Player of the Week
Zachary Bippus / SO / Gallaudet University / Fishers, Ind.

Gallaudet University outside hitter Zachary Bippus had a big week for the buff and blue as he tallied 70 kills, 34 digs, seven blocks and five aces as GU posted a 2-2 record. Bippus made a career-high 25 kills in a five-set win at Cairn University last Thursday. Earlier in the week he had a 23-kill match at Immaculata University on the road in another five-setter. He completed the double-double with 10 digs. He tallied another double-double at home against Pratt with 15 kills and 11 digs. Bippus is second in the United East standings for total kills (224) and kills per set average of 3.61. He is third in the United East for total digs (148) and is also tied for fourth in service aces with 24.

This is Bippus' second United East weekly accolade of the season (02/09/26)

Defensive Player of the Week
Demetrius Simmons / SR / Wilson College / Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Mechanicsburg

Simmons controlled the defense at the net this week as he helped his Phoenix squad go 1-1 in a pair of conference tilts. The senior picked up four blocks, including one solo, in a hardfought 3-1 loss to Lancaster Bible. He then backed that performance with five stonewalls in a straight-set victory over Neumann. He'd also tack on five kills and three service aces.

This is Simmons' first United East weekly accolade of the season and his second of his career (02/24/25)

 
 
 
Baseball

Player of the Week
Blaine Waltimyer / SR / Penn State Harrisburg / Pottstown, Pa. / Owen J. Roberts

In four road games against nationally-ranked opponents in three days, Blaine Waltimyer led the way at the plate for Penn State Harrisburg against No. 8 Rowan and No. 23 Christopher Newport, slashing .563/.579/.750 with a 1.329 OPS in 16 at-bats. The outfielder had a four-hit game against the Profs on Friday, went 2-for-2 with two doubles against CNU on Saturday and reached base four times in a win over the Captains on Sunday. For the weekend, he doubled three times and racked up a dozen total bases to go along with a pair of walks, a sac fly, two RBI, two runs scored and a pair of stolen bases.

This is Waltimyer's first ever United East weekly accolade.

Pitcher of the Week
Asijah Evelyn / SO / University of Valley Forge / Sanford, Fla. / Lake Howell

Evelyn pitched a complete game win on Saturday, earning the first of two victories against Baruch. The sophomore shutout his opponent allowing just four hits scattered through 7.0 innings of work. He'd also punch out four Bearcat batters.

This is Evelyn's first ever United East weekly accolade.
 
 
Softball

Player of the Week
Katelyn Keller / SO / Wilson College / Orrtanna, Pa. / Gettysburg

Keller had another smashing week as she went 7-for-15 from the plate with seven runs scored, three RBIs, two triples, and a stolen base just for good measure. She opened with a 3-for-4 performance with three runs scored and two triples against former conference rival St. Elizabeth. She had two multiple hit games to give her five in nine games to start the year.

This is Keller's second ever United East weekly accolade, picking up her first one last week.

Pitcher of the Week
Riley Piper / JR / Wilson College / Newville, Pa. / Big Spring

Piper put together another strong week as she went 2-1 while allowing just two earned runs in 10.2 innings pitched. She allowed eight hits across that stretch with five coming in a complete game shutout of former conference foe St. Elizabeth. She tossed another three frames in relief to help Wilson defeat Grove City to cap spring break games. She struck out five in her three appearances.

This is Piper's first ever United East weekly accolade.
 



Women’s Lacrosse

Offensive Player of the Week
Kylah Demarest / SR / Cedar Crest College / Vernon, N.J. / Vernon Township

Demarest led the Falcons on the offensive side of the ball, tallying 13 points in a 2-0 week. She started the week with two goals and four assists in a 16-1 victory over Randolph and the finished with six goals and one assist in a 16-0 shutout of Sweet Briar. The senior also tallied five groundballs, four caused turnovers, and seven draw controls. 

This is Deamarest's second ever United East weekly accolade (03/24/25)


Defensive Player of the Week
Riley Lemay / JR / Wilson College / Saugerties, N.Y. / Saugerties

Lemay had two excellent games defensively with 11 ground balls and nine caused turnovers. Eight ground balls and six caused turnovers came against Goucher. Three and three followed against St. Vincent.

This is Lemay's first ever United East weekly accolade.


 

Men’s Lacrosse

Offensive Player of the Week
Gavin McKay / JR / St. Mary's College of Maryland / Urbana, Md. / Urbana

Gavin McKay continues to fill the stat sheet with goals. In a tough 5-4 loss to Catholic, McKay scored twice and had an assist plus one ground ball. He followed that up with a career-best five goals and one ground ball in a 20-5 win over SUNY Maritime College.

This is McKay's second ever United East weekly accolade, picking up her first one last week.


Defensive Player of the Week
Adam Martin / SR / St. Mary's College of Maryland / Kent Island, Md. / Kent Island

Adam Martin was the defensive leader in the Seahawks' 1-1 week. Martin started off with career-highs of six ground balls and four caused turnovers in a tough 5-4 loss to Catholic. He then led the defense with three caused turnovers and three ground balls in the team's 20-5 win over SUNY Maritime College.

This is Martin's first ever United East weekly accolade.
 


Women’s Flag Football

Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week
Nadia King / FR / Penn State Harrisburg / Harrisburg, Pa. / Susquehanna Township

Nadia King made her debut a memorable one as she accounted for all nine of Penn State Harrisburg's touchdowns in a 55-6 victory over Keystone in the season opener on Wednesday night. Offensively, the quarterback finished 11-of-17 for 166 yards and six passing touchdowns to go along with seven rushes for 24 yards and two rushing scores. Defensively, she recorded three interceptions, including a 16-yard pick six, three tackles and a pass breakup. 

This is King' first ever United East weekly accolade.
