Seahawks Win Back-To-Back Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships

LATHAM, N.Y. – St. Mary’s College of Maryland won its second consecutive United East Conference Championship, winning 11 of the 20 events. The Championship was hosted by Keystone College.

The Seahawks finished the meet with 236 points, placing 22 times in the top three of events. Rocksann Smith had a big day on both the track and in the field, scoring 43 team points, including earning the victory in the Javelin throw. London Best turned in a great performance on the track, scoring 26 points including wins in the 100 meters and 200 meters. Best was named United East Co-Track Athlete of the Year and Co-Rookie of the Year. Jillian Zukley dominated in the women’s throwing events, winning the Hammer and Shot Put while taking second in the Discus. For her efforts, Zukley was named Field Athlete of the Year. In addition, head coach Reava Potter was named United East Coach of the Year.

Penn State Harrisburg took second place as team in the championship, posting a team score of 183 points. The Lions were led by Makayla Reichel who score 26 team points after winning the 3000-meter steeple chase and taking second in the 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters. Reichel was also named Co-Track athlete of the Year and Co-Rookie of the Year.

Lancaster Bible finished third overall at the championship scoring 152 points. The Chargers were led by Elly Bruner who won the high jump, Abby Ames who took the top spot in the 1,500 meters and Faith Garber who captured an individual title in the 400-meter hurdles.  

Cedar Crest College also had a strong showing, scoring 87 team points. University of Valley Forge and Carlow University finished fifth and sixth, while Penn State Abington, Keystone College and Gallaudet University rounded out the field.
