GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has announced its 2013 NEAC Women's Lacrosse All-Conference selections, with first, second and third team honors being awarded by position to a total of 36 student-athletes, as selected by the conference coaches.
The NEAC has also announced its individual women's lacrosse award winners. Cazenovia College senior Alicia Priest (Warners, N.Y.) was selected as the NEAC Offensive Player of the Year after a phenomenal season for the Wildcats. The attacker set the Wildcat program records for both points (106) and goals (95) in a season, while leading the conference in each of those categories as well. She is also currently second in all of the NCAA Division III in goals per game (6.07) and trails the leader by just a 0.03 margin, while sitting in sixth nationally in points per game (6.73). A team captain, Priest's dominance led to four NEAC Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week selections and two Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Offensive Player of the Week honors en route to guiding the Wildcats to a playoff spot in this year's conference tournament.
Keuka College sophomore Ashley Swarts (Arkport, N.Y.) was named the NEAC Defensive Player of the Year after her tremendous play for the Storm this season. Swarts led a Storm defense that allowed just 90 goals on the season (6.43 goals against average), which was tops in the conference and 42 fewer than the second-leading squad. The tenacious defender led Keuka with 21 caused turnovers, which was tied for the eighth-most in the NEAC, while also scooping up 32 groundballs on the year. Her play this season earned her a NEAC Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week honor.
SUNY Institute of Technology freshman Laura Tolbert (Cicero, N.Y.) took home NEAC Rookie of the Year honors after a terrific season for the Wildcats. The midfielder led SUNYIT in scoring with 50 goals on the season, which were the sixth-most in the conference and tops among all rookies. She also compiled 26 groundballs, 20 draw controls and 10 caused turnovers while starting all 16 Wildcat contests on the season en route to leading SUNYIT to the playoffs in the program's second season of existence.
The NEAC Coach of the Year award went to Keuka College's Kelly Lickert after she guided the Storm to the regular season championship with a perfect 9-0 record in conference play while going 11-3 overall. Lickert's balanced squad totaled the most overall points on the season (205 goals, 100 assists) amongst conference teams, while giving up the least amount of goals (90). The Storm will now enter this weekend's conference championship tournament as the host and top seed.
