Seahawks Cruise to United East-AMCC Women's Lacrosse Title

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. -- For the fifth consecutive season, St. Mary's College of Maryland will represent the United East Conference in the NCAA Tournament after clinching the automatic qualifier bid with a 20-2 victory over Alfred State in the United East-AMCC Crossover Championship game on Saturday.

The Seahawks will find out their first round opponent in the NCAA Selection Show on Sunday. Opening Round games are scheduled to be played on Saturday-Sunday, May 9-10.

St. Mary's reeled off the game's first 13 goals and led 13-1 at the half. Championship MVP Sarah Fitter and Sanne Elling both aided the Seahawks scoring with a pair of first-half hat-tricks. SMC tallied four more goals in the third period and outscored the Pioneers, 3-1 in the final period to hoist its fifth consecutive trophy.

Elling led the attack with seven goals and an assist while Fitter finished with six points on three goals and three assists. Katelin Scalia also netted a hat-trick.

Claire Boudreau anchored the defense with four caused turnovers and four ground balls. Allie Greeley collected one save in 45 minutes of action between the pipes to earn the win.
