NEAC Announces 2014-15 Women’s Lacrosse All-Conference Selections and Individual Award Winners
GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has announced its 2014-15 Women’s Lacrosse All-Conference selections, with first, second and third team honors being awarded by position to a total of 36 student-athletes, as selected by the conference coaches.
The NEAC has also announced its individual award winners, which were also selected by the conference coaches. Morrisville State College senior Shelby Wood (Duanesburg, N.Y.) was named the NEAC Offensive Player of the Year for the second straight time after another fantastic season for the Mustangs. The attacker was second in the conference in both points (83) and goals (59), while also being third in assists (24) and fourth in both draw controls (55) and caused turnovers (25) to help lead the Mustangs to an 8-1 NEAC record. Wood tallied at least five points in 10 of the 15 contests she started on the year, including five contests with at least eight points, which helped her become the first Mustang player in program history to reach 300 career goals. Those efforts also helped land her Offensive Player of the Week honors from both the NEAC and the ECAC this season en route to also making her fourth straight appearance on the All-Conference First Team.
The NEAC Defensive Player of the Year honor went to SUNY Polytechnic Institute junior Tierney McGlynn (Watervliet, N.Y.) after an excellent season for the Wildcats. The defender caused the second-most turnovers in the conference with 29 and scooped up the sixth-most groundballs with 51 while starting in all 15 Wildcat contests this season. McGlynn caused at least one turnover in all but one contest and recorded a groundball in every game in addition to adding 13 goals and 34 draw controls on the year, which helped the Wildcats post their most wins in program history with nine, including their first-ever playoff victory Tuesday. McGlynn, who garnered a NEAC Defensive Player of the Week selection, also made the jump to the All-Conference First Team after being a Third Team selection last year.
Morrisville State College freshman Angela Marriott (Peekskill, N.Y.) garnered NEAC Rookie of the Year honors after terrific debut season for the Mustangs. The midfielder did a little bit of everything for the Mustangs, posting 35 points on 23 goals and 12 assists to go along with 31 draw controls, 19 ground balls and seven caused turnovers. Her assist total was the seventh-highest across the conference and she also ranked 11th in the NEAC in draw controls despite missing five games due to injury. Her versatility helped her score at least three points in four separate contests offensively while also landing her a NEAC Defensive Player of the Week selection on the year. Marriott’s efforts helped the Mustangs clinch the second seed in the NEAC Tournament with an 8-1 conference record.
Keuka College’s Eryn McCaffrey took home the NEAC Coach of the Year award after an outstanding first year at the helm for the Wolfpack. Keuka didn’t miss a beat under McCaffrey’s watch, as she led them to their third straight NEAC regular season championship with a perfect 9-0 record while going 12-2 overall. Her Wolfpack squad also leads the conference in goals (226), goals per game (16.14), shooting percentage (53.9) and shots-on-goal percentage (83.1) as they enter the NEAC Tournament as the defending champions and No. 1 seed.
