United East Announces Women's Tennis All-Conference & Major Awards

LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East has announced its Women’s Tennis All-Conference Teams as well as it’s major award winners for the 2022-23 season. All-Conference consists of two teams each with six singles players and three doubles pairings. The major award winners are as follows:

Rookie of the Year - Olivia Bandini (Penn State Harrisburg)

Player of the Year - Olivia Bandini (Penn State Harrisburg)

Coach of the Year - Sona Hussian (St. Mary’s College of Maryland)

Bandini has had no issue jumping into the collegiate athlete atmosphere, taking home both Rookie & Player of the Year awards. The first year was dominant from the top flight where she boasted a record of 8-2 overall. In conference competition, Bandini held a spotless 5-0 record, while holding her five opponents to just 11 games combined.

The Dillsburg, Pa. native also showed her prowess in doubles action, teaming up with Breanna DeSantis for most of the year in the first flight. Those two would combine for a perfect 5-0 record in conference play and 9-2 overall. This season, Bandini has also been named the United East Women’s Tennis Player of the Week four times.

Hussian stepped into her role after the new year, serving as the Seahawks interim coach. She guided St. Mary’s College to its second-straight United East Regular Season title, finishing the year with a 5-0 conference record. The Seahawks would gather up three more non-conference victories as well. With Hussian on the sidelines, the Seahawks saw three individuals receive All-Conference recognition as well as three doubles teams.
