St. Mary's and Wilson Set to Face-Off in Women's Lacrosse Championship

Latham, N.Y. - St. Mary's College of Maryland and Wilson College punch their tickets to the United East Women's Lacrosse Championship. The No.1 seed Seahawks defeated No. 4 Cedar Crest, 23-0, while number No. 3 Wilson upended No. 2 Bryn Athyn, 11-8.

St. Mary's got off to a hot start and didn't look back with a 7-0 lead in the first period against Cedar Crest.  A total of 10 players scored including Ella Baynes and Hope Harrison tallying four goals each while Sanne Elling added 3 goals to lead the Seahawks. A quartet of Seahawks also added four assists a piece in their impressive offensive outing.  

Claire Boudeau played a huge role on the defensive end as she led the Seahawks with five ground balls and caused four turnovers. Rachel Freeman also added three caused turnovers while Bella Dungain caused three.

For the Falcons, Kayleigh Woomer saved 16 shots.

#3 Wilson College def. #2 Bryn Athyn College - 11-8

Wilson took an early 6-2 lead heading into halftime before the Lions weathered the storm cutting the deficit to 7-6 heading into the fourth-period. The Phoenix were able to sustain that run with a 4-2 fourth-period count holding off the Lions 11-8. For the Phoenix, Sage Lague dominated the offensive side with seven goals on eight shots. Four other players got on the board for Wilson with one goal each.

On the defensive end, Krystak Kienast dominated the evening tallying 22 saves, turning back 73% of the Lion's attempts on goal. Ellia Gamby-Mickey also stepped up for the Phoenix defense chipping in four ground balls.

For Bryn Athyn, Shea Gormley led the way with three goals and one assist tallying four points. Four other Lions got on the board with Mairah Storck adding two goals and three others chipping in a goal each. Gormley also accumulated seven ground balls, while Kylie Scarpiello added four.

St. Mary’s and Wilson College advance to the United East Women’s Lacrosse finals where the No. 1 seed Seahawks will host the No. 3 seed Pheonix on Saturday, May 4 at 4:30 p.m.
