SMC Women's Lacrosse Concludes Season in Second Round of NCAA Tourney

LANCASTER, Pa. -  The St. Mary’s College of Maryland women’s lacrosse team fell to No. 3 Franklin & Marshall College on Sunday afternoon 19-7 in the second round of the NCAA Division III Women’s Lacrosse Tournament.

The host went 5-0 early in the first period and didn’t look back as Franklin & Marshall look for another trip to the national semifinals in 2024.  St. Mary’s scored their first goal with 2:25 remaining in the first period as Sanee Elling finished the assist from Katelin Scala to make the score 5-1.  The Seahawks were down 10-4 at halftime after Ella Baynes scored off of an Elling assist.

However, the Dips broke the game open with seven goals in the third period while keeping the Seahawks off the board for 15 minutes and the running clock was put in motion.

Haley Betch had two goals while Scala, Baynes, and Elling all had a goal and an assist.  Allie Greeley had a career-high 16 saves and three ground balls.

St. Mary’s ended the season at 12-7 (4-0 United East), their third-straight United East championship, and an NCAA Tournament win after yesterday’s defeat of Grove City College.
