Slow Start Hinders Seahawks in NCAA Women's Lax Championship

SALISBURY, Md. - The St. Mary’s College of Maryland women’s lacrosse team concluded their season Saturday afternoon as they fell, 18-10, to No. 19 Haverford College in the First Round of the 2025 NCAA Championship. The result earned the team a record of 10-8 on the season.

Haverford came out of the gates firing, scoring the game’s first three goals. Hailey Betch broke up the shutout with a goal around the two minute mark but the Fords dumped in another three scores before the first stanza ended. The second period spelled more of the same with the Fords scoring six times although Betch would score twice in this period.

After the intermission, St. Mary’s College seemed to find its bearings, trading three goals a piece in the third and outscoring their opponents 4-3 in the fourth, but the first half lead was too great to overcome.

Betch and Colin Horton both finished with a hat trick while Ella Baynes scored twice and assisted on another. Katelin Scala also picked up three points with a goal and two helpers.

Claire Boudreau and Carsyn Smith both played tough on defense as Boudreau led the team with three caused turnovers and Smith with four groundballs. Isabel Gautreaux took the loss as she stopped six shots over the first thirty minutes. Allie Greeley then took over to add another three saves.
