Seahawks Earn Presidents' Cup & Women's Title; Harrisburg Collects Men's Title

LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East has announced its winner of the 2024-25 Presidents’ Cup Trophy as well as its Top Overall Athletic Program Women’s and Men’s Teams awards.

The Presidents’ Cup is determined by a scoring system which rewards a school for success during both regular season and postseason competition.

For the third time in as many years, St. Mary’s College of Maryland has earned the Presidents’ Cup Trophy while also securing its second-straight Top Overall Athletic Program Women’s Award.

Penn State Harrisburg was tabbed the winners of the Top Overall Athletic Program Men’s Award.

The Seahawks had another fantastic year across the board with every single one of its 17 United East sponsored sports making the postseason and 16 of the programs earning postseason bonus points. Highlighting the department were eight programs who were crowned conference champions. In the fall, women’s cross country picked up the first title of the year and was followed by Champions t-shirts in both field hockey and men’s soccer. Two titles were scooped up during the winter season as Indoor Track & Field claimed the crown on both the men’s and women’s side. Track success bled into spring with another title coming in women’s outdoor track & field. The final two trophies hoisted were the ones in men’s and women’s lacrosse. To add to their point total, the Seahawks finished first in the standings in men’s soccer, field hockey, women’s basketball, men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse and women’s tennis.

"Winning the President’s Cup for a third straight year is an incredible honor and  testament to the relentless dedication, teamwork, and excellence of our student-athletes, coaches, and support staff," said Crystal Gibson, director of athletics and recreation at St. Mary's College of Maryland. "This achievement reflects not only our athletic success, but the strength of our Seahawk family and  entire campus community."

Nairem Moran, St. Mary's Senior Woman Administrator (SWA) and director of athletic communications, reflected on the Overall Athletic Program Women's Award. "I am immensely proud of our SMCM women's sports teams for capturing the title of top overall women's athletic program for a second straight year This award is the culmination of the relentless drive, discipline, and heart our athletes brought every single day to achieve their full potential and strive for excellence at every level."

Harrisburg sat just behind the Seahawks in the overall standings and women’s standings but claimed the top spot in the men’s. The Lions were playoff participants in all team sports this season, winning the title in women’s soccer, men’s tennis and women’s tennis. The Harrisburg men’s outdoor track and field team also picked up their first-ever United East title in early May of this year. Additionally, Harrisburg garnered the top standings points in men’s tennis and women’s soccer as they topped the regular season standings.

"This is a true testament to the hard work and dedication of our student athletes,  coaches, athletic department team and campus community who all work cooperatively to support and maintain highly successful athletic programs," sad Rahsaan Carlton, athletic director at Penn State Harrisburg.

Penn College climbed one spot from a season ago, taking third in the Presidents’ Cup standings. The Wildcats took team titles in both Men’s Cross Country and Men’s Golf while finishing as the runner up in this year’s United East Softball Championship.

Both Penn State Abington and Saint Elizabeth University had the biggest jumps as compared to last year's results as both member institutions hopped six places in the final standings.
