Seahawks Capture Fourth-Straight Women's Lacrosse Title

ST. MARY’S CITY, MD. - For the fourth time in as many seasons, the top-seeded St. Mary’s College of Maryland women’s lacrosse team earned the title of United East Champions as they downed No. 3 Bryn Athyn College, 24-5, Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Seahawks not only earn the title of Champions, but also earn the automatic qualifier to the upcoming NCAA Championship. That selection show will be at 6 PM on Monday.

Bryn Athyn started the scoring as they notched the game’s first goal at the 12:45 mark. The Seahawks answered back with 16 unanswered, taking a commanding lead through the second quarter. That lead proved to be insurmountable as the Seahawks cruised to their fourth conference title.

Nine different members of the home squad scored with eight of them putting the ball in the net multiple times. Sanne Elling and Katelin Scala both topped the stat sheet with four goals and also both added one assist. Madison Laine matched their five points with a five-point performance of their own (3g, 2a). Ella Baynes and Hailey Betch added to the scoresheet with a hat trick a piece.

Defensively, Carsyn Smith anchored the defense as she caused a pair of turnovers while scooping up a groundball as well.
