Major Award Winners
Offensive Player of the Year - Hailey Betch (St. Mary's College of Maryland)
Defensive Player of the Year - Carsyn Smith (St. Mary's College of Maryland)
Rookie of the Year - Xola Wade (Bryn Athyn College)
Coach of the Year - Ramona Walters (Bryn Athyn College)
Betch has been a top-tier player for the duration of her career and she was all gas in her senior season. Known for her precise distribution of the pill, Betch led the conference in assists this season with 34. She’d add 40 goals to that statline as well, making her the highest point-getter in the United East with 74 on the season. The Severna Park, Md. native notched at least one point in all games except one this season, with one of her top outings coming against Notre Dame of Maryland where she scored three times and assisted on six other goals. This season, Betch was named the United East Offensive Player of the Week three times.
Smith was the anchor to the St. Mary’s College defense, helping the team improve their unbeaten conference play streak to four-straight seasons. The Seahawks allowed just 8.76 goals per game which was top among the United East teams. Smith’s ability to create the turnover helped with that as she led the league with 28 caused turnovers. She’d not only cause the turnovers, but also helped to pick up the pieces as her 39 groundballs ranked second in the conference. This year, Smith was tabbed the United East Defensive Player of the Week three times.
Wade only showed up in the box score during Bryn Athyn’s conference contests, but that was where she excelled. The Huntingdon, Pa. native was a critical piece of the Lion midfield as she registered a point in five of her six games played. Wade finished the year with 13 goals, but her defensive efforts were solid as well, causing 10 turnovers across the six games. One of her top performances was against Notre Dame of Maryland where she scored twice, picked up a pair of groundballs and caused a turnover.
Ramona Walters got the most out of her squad as the team played in their final season. She guided her squad to an 8-5 record, picking up wins in five of her first six games. Defense played a large role in her scheme as her squad’s save percentage of 44.0% ranked first in the conference. Under Walters tutelage, five players earned All-Conference honors including Rookie of the Year, Xola Wade.
